The Tourist Accommodation Bill - 2025 (we're just going to call it the TAB from here on out) is a piece of legislation introduced by the Government of Barbados in 2025. Government's stated aim with the bill has been described by the Minister of Tourism as being designed to "protect the brand of Barbados" during numerous interviews and media appearances. While we agree that this sounds nice, it is also rather nebulous and non-specific. At the time of writing, no other rationale has been offered as to why the legislation exists.
The Bill as written seeks to regulate AirBnB and other short-term rental properties to conform to a set of standards (many of which have not been clarified at the time of the Bill's passing). It features heavy fines, that, at their maximum, would be the largest fines anywhere in the world for the sector.
